Note: <888> 09/30/04  Thursday 9:40 P.M.:  I am watching the U.S. Presidential debates on television.  I went out after the last message.  I went by the Exxon gasoline station next to the Greenwich Library, and I bought $15.50 of premium unleaded gasoline at $2.399 a gallon for about 23 miles per gallon usage.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I used the bathroom at the Senior and Arts center.  I stopped by CVS walking up and down Greenwich Avenue, and I toured the store, and then on the second visit, I looked for one of the Christmas Tree automobile scent cards, but they were not available.  I drove down by the waterfront.  I then went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Time.  I  next went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a half gallon of Stop and Shop 2% low fat milk for $2.69, and a Maria Callender 14 ounce turkey and stuffing dinner for $2.29, and a Maria Callender 14 ounce chicken tenders dinner for $2.29 for $7.27 total.  I then returned home.  I took a four ounce can of sliced mushrooms, and I drained and rinsed the water out of it with the lid.  I put a few tablespoons of olive oil in a small sauté pan, and I heated it over medium high electric heat, and I sautéed the mushrooms over medium heat.  I put about four 4.5 tablespoons of olive oil and two pads of margarine in my 10 inch omelet pan, and I heated it over medium high electric heat.  I sliced eight 1 inch by 2 inch by 1/8th inch slices of Swiss cheese.  I cracked three extra large eggs in a metal bowl, and I added about 1/8th of a cup of 2% low fat milk and a quarter of a teaspoon of Italian spices, and I whisked it all together with a metal whisk.  Once the olive oil was heated in the omelet pan and the mushrooms were heated, I added the egg mixture to the omelet pan, and I lower the heat to medium.  I put a lid on the pan, and I let it cook, until it began to harden on top.  I then flipped the omelet with a spatula, and I cover one half of it with the Swiss cheese slices and about 75% of the mushrooms.  I then folded the bare half over the covered half, and put it on a warm dinner plate.  I put the remaining slice of Swiss cheese on it and the remaining sautéed mushrooms and covered it with a medium to light covering grate parmesan cheese.  While cooking the omelet, I also toasted two slices of bread, and I put two pads of margarine on each and spread it, and I cut the toast in half.  I had it all for dinner with a glass of 2% low fat milk.  I don't wash my omelet pan, but I just wipe it dry with a paper towel, so it does not stick in the future, and it gradually conditions the omelet pan.  I will continue to watch the U.S. Presidential debate, which I have been listening to since it started.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/30/04  Thursday 5:05 P.M.:  I was up at 10 A.M. on Wednesday yesterday.  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I showered and cleaned up.  I called a Greenwich Taxi at about 11:30 A.M. at 1-203-869-6000.  I left here about 11:45 A.M., and I was dropped off at the Railroad Avenue side of the Greenwich Train station for $6.20 taxi fare and $1.80 tip for $8.00 total.  The ticket windows was closed, and since the train station pedestrian overpass is closed for reconstruction, I walked around to the other side via Arch Street.  I bought a ticket from the ticket vending machine for $2.25 for Greenwich to Stamford.  I then caught the local train to Stamford.  I then went to the Amtrak www.amtrak.com counter, and I cancelled my reservation for train #173 at 2:56 P.M., and I bought a ticket for train #93 at 12:56 P.M. to the 30th street station at Philadelphia, Pa. for $52.  I bought a copy of the New York Times from the newsstand for a dollar.  My train was about 15 minutes late, and I boarded it when it arrived.  I read the New York Times on the train down to Philadelphia, and we arrived with stops at about 3:50 P.M..  The Amtrak train from Stamford, Connecticut south makes a stop at Newark International airport for flight travel.  I was met at the train station in Philadelphia by two relatives, and we drove out to their house in the suburbs with a stop at a local grocery store.  I tried starting the 1995 Volvo 850 turbo station wagon, but since it had not been started in three weeks the new battery was run down.  Possibly the alarm had run down the battery.  I chatted with my relatives, and when another relative returned back to his house, we jump started the Volvo and let it idle for about an hour and a half to charge up the battery.  We all had dinner of outdoor grilled marinated flank steak, Uncle Ben's flavored rice, and salad, and I had soda water to drink.  I chatted with my relatives.  We turned off the Volvo, and it started right up again.  We took it for a test drive, and it seem to be running fine.  It has 98,400 miles on it.  It has a six disk CD changer in the spare tire compartment.  It has metal alloy wheels with low profile tires with about 5 to 8 thousand miles tread remaining.  I also got a set of four tires on steel rims in case I wanted to eventually replace the tires with less expensive tires.  The Volvo has all of the deluxe features of the Volvo of that period, and it was dealer maintained and checked out recently and serviced.  I studied the owner's manual briefly.  I chatted with my relatives.  I went to bed at 11 P.M..  I was up at 7 A.M. today.  We tested the Volvo, and it started right up.  I had breakfast of Cheerios, half of a muffin, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  My relatives gave me the signed Volvo title and a Bill of Sale reflecting that it is from my sister for a dollar.  Thus I should not have to pay Connecticut tax when I transfer its title and registration tomorrow at the Danbury DMV office, since it is a gift from a relative.  I have to go to the Danbury office to do a VIN number search in doing the out of state title transfer.  I showered and cleaned up.  I chatted with my relatives.  I left my relatives house at 9:15 A.M., and I took the Pennsylvania turnpike east to the New Jersey turnpike north for a $2 toll.  I stopped at the Woodrow Wilson rest area.  I got off at exit 11 at the Garden State Parkway north for $2.10 toll.  I paid three .35 tolls on the Garden State Parkway, and I stopped at a rest area near Newark, New Jersey.  I got on the connecting road to the Tappan Zee bridge, and I paid a $3 toll to cross the Tappan Zee bridge, and I took I-287 south to I-95 east one exit to the Byram, Connecticut exit for 146 miles total and three hours and 15 minutes travel time.  I drank some iced tea.  I cleared out the floor of the left living room closet, and I used my cart to bring up the four steel rim tires, and I put them on the floor of the left living closet.  I carried down the tools and other items I had removed from the Hyundai, and I put them in the Volvo in relatively the same places as they were in the Hyundai.  Thus the rear part of the Volvo is filled up to window level, and there is cover to cover the rear cargo area, so it does not show.  I have the paper work upstairs in my apartment on the Volvo.  I have one key with a remote switch device for the door and alarm, and I am being sent a second.  I also have the Valet key, which I put on my spare key chain in the apartment.  The Valet key works as a regular key, but the glove box does not work with it.  The Volvo is still registered and insured by my relative until I transfer the paper work tomorrow.  The kitchen appliances that were on the floor of the left living room closet, I put on underneath the maple table behind the blue couch.  I put the shoes and extension cord in the right closet.  I moved the old floppy disk boxes underneath the French antique reproduction sitting chair.  I chatted with a relative.  I microwaved and ate a 12.5 ounce Stouffer's Lean Cuisine chicken and mushrooms dinner, which I had with a glass of iced tea.  Earlier, I also drank a cold Diet Coke in a frosted mug.  The Volvo runs just fine, but I have to familiarize myself with some of the instrumentation.  I will go out shortly to fill up the car with gasoline.  The Volvo uses premium gasoline, and its gasoline filler flap opens when the car is unlocked.  I will also put the Elephant republican sticker on the lower driver's side rear window.  I am most pleased with the Volvo.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/28/04  Tuesday 2:00 A.M.:  This Wednesday on Amtrak www.amtrak.com from Stamford, Connecticut to the 30th street station in Philadelphia, PA. , there is a 8:24 A.M., 9:28 A.M., 11 A.M., 12:56 P.M ., 2:56 P.M., and 3:26 P.M. costing $52 and taking about two and a half hours.  All but the first is reserved coach.  I called Amtrak at 1-800-USA-RAIL, and they told me I can make a reservation without paying the fare until I arrive at the train station of departure, if making the reservation less than 24 hours before departure.  If more than 24 hours, I have to pay when I make the reservation.  I still have to wait to see what my relatives say in the Philadelphia area.  I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed soon.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/28/04  Tuesday 1:20 A.M.:   I went outside briefly.  I bought the 1999 Hyundai Hatchback Accent L on August 26, 2002 with the help of a relative that financed it.  I paid $3,200, $150 purchase tax, $130 auto registration over two years, $20 emissions, $1,448.82 maintenance which included new Sears Michelin 175 70/13  tires, front end alignment, dealer maintenance, oil and filter changes, new battery, and other maintenance items, and property tax of $54.55 for a total over two years of $5,003.37.  On the car itself without registration cost, emissions inspection cost, and property tax it cost $4,798.92 for the purchase, tax, and maintenance.  I sold the car for $1,950, so it cost $2,842.82 to own the car for 25 months, or $113.96 a month plus insurance, gasoline, property tax, registration, and emission inspection.  I gave the sale money back to my relative that helped finance the Hyundai less the cost of what it will cost me to register the Volvo and transfer its title.  Automobile registration, gasoline, insurance, drivers license, emissions inspection, and property tax cost $2480.28 or about $99.22 a month, so without my relative financing the car, I would not have been able to afford it.  Since I am getting the Volvo from a relative for a dollar, I will not have the automobile depreciation costs.  When I bought the car, it had 31,800 miles on it, and I sold it with 42,300 miles, so I put 10,500 miles on the Hyundai, and it thus cost with depreciation me and my relative $.507 or 50.7 cents a mile to own and operate the Hyundai.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/27/04  Monday 10:45 P.M.:  I chatted with two relatives and a friend.  I called www.geico.com at 1-800-42GEICO , and I cancelled my Hyundai insurance, and the policy on the 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo starts at midnight tonight.  They emailed me the insurance cards, and I printed out four copies.  I got $100,000, $100,000 $300,000 liability, collision and comprehensive, and it is the same rate as I was paying on the Hyundai. They will bill me to start the new policy after the current policy expires October 7, 2004.  I got a quote on $20,000 renters insurance, and it would be $14 a month with an initial payment of $50, which I might get starting at the first of the month.  The renter's insurance is sold by GEICO with www.travelers.com as the insurance company.  I called a relative back to tell them I had insured the Volvo.  I am not sure yet whether I will pick it up in the Philadelphia area traveling down by train, or if it will be delivered.  To register the Volvo, I have to do a VIN identification search at the Danbury, Connecticut DMV http://dmvct.org/ , but currently their web site does not work.  Since I am getting the Volvo as a gift for a dollar from my sister, I will not have to pay Connecticut state tax on it, but I will need proof that the seller for a dollar is my sister, which hopefully she will provide.  The VIN identification search can not be done at the Norwalk, Connecticut DMV office.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/26/04  Sunday 8:50 P.M.:  I made a System Restore backup.  I ran disk cleanup on the C: drive, and I removed the older System Restore backup files.  I then transferred the D: drive files to the C: drive in a D: folder.  I then used the XP backup program with the Automatic System Recovery option, and I backed up the entire C: drive to the empty D: drive.  I then transferred the D: drive contents from the C: drive D: folder back to the D: drive.  I then backed from the C: drive to the D: drive, the My Documents folder, and then the Music files and then all of the other files except the C:\Windows and the "C:\Program Files" in three separate backup files in a D:\backupc folder.  I now have 7.11 gigabytes free space on the C: drive and 2.86 gigabytes free space on the D: drive.  I then ran Norton Speed Disk on the C: drive.  I rebooted and the computer system is running just fine, and all of its regular maintenance is done.  I watched some television while doing all of this, and I also went outside.  I also chatted with a relative.  Once I have finished the sale on the Hyundai tomorrow at 5 P.M., I will have to go down to the Philadelphia area on the train to pick up the Volvo at a relative's house.  However, for the drive back the next day, I will have to make sure the weather is clear, so I have not yet determined my travel plans for that event.  Also I want to wait until the Hyundai sale is finalized.  Since I have probably sold the Hyundai, I will not be driving it until the new owners take possession.  Thus I will not be downtown in Greenwich much, until I return to Greenwich with the Volvo some time in the near future.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/25/04  Saturday 3:10 A.M.:  In the Norton Internet Security 2004 firewall settings, I increased the settings from the recommended setting of medium to high.  I also blocked ping in the Firewall settings, but when I tested the firewall with Symantec Security Check , it showed the ping ports are still open.  Basically when one is dealing with a user friendly technology, it does not have the same security that one might find in Black Box technology that is somewhat more expensive and complex to operate.  Still even Black Box technology is fairly simply to override if one understands the principles behind it.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/25/04  Saturday 2:20 A.M.:  The last two times, I sent out copies of my weekly notes to three U.S. government recipients along with the other recipients, I have had my computer malfunction in the process of sending them when other email goes through without any problems.  Also previously the Optimum Online server would reject them until, I tried to send them a number of times.  The fact that the process of sending the notes seems to aggravate someone with the capability of monitoring and hacking my system causing system damager, it would seem to me the individual or individuals responsible are in violation of the law as established by the Federal Communications Commission.  Below is a copy of the note I sent to my usual Scott's Notes recipients.  Note Follows:

Scott’s Notes, Technical Note 09/25/04

In the process of sending out Scott’s Notes on a weekly basis to the three U.S. government

recipients that I send them to, I break them up into 8 to 10 parts to send the longer note of my log.

However, recently and for some time in the past, whenever I send the notes, my computer malfunctions or does

not send them, when other email goes through without any problems.

It is like somebody is monitoring my internet activity that does not like me sending the notes.

Since I know the U.S. Government would not do this, since it would be against the procedures established by the

Federal Communications Commission, I can only assume some outside agents of influence in this area with capability

of monitoring my internet activity is responsible. Thus if they show such a high level of sophistication in terms of hacking

and intercepting email communications more than likely they are involved in other more serious forms of criminal activity.

It would seem to me that if the agents of deceit are intercepting communications, they would have a separate agenda from

the current U.S. government and more over if it happens to me in simple internet activity, more than likely more important

communications are being monitored and stopped or intercepted.

Note: <888> 09/24/04  Friday 11:55 P.M.:  I went out after the last message.  I went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Time.  I then went by CVS on Greenwich Avenue, and I bought a Pioneer Photo Album with 100 magnetic pages or 50 sheets style no. LM-100 for $7.99 plus .48 tax for $8.47 total.  I then walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I peeked behind the paper on the windows at Starbucks' remodeling, and it is completely gutted.  I noticed on the railroad station movie theatre marquis, they  are having the Greenwich Film Festival on Sunday September 26.  I suppose it will bring out some movie buffs.  I next drove down by the waterfront.  I then went by the Food Emporium, and I bought a 16 ounce bar of Stop and Shop Swiss cheese for $4.39, a 10 ounce bag of fresh spinach for $1.99, a 10 ounce box of fresh mushrooms for $2.29, and two Stop and Shop blue toilet bowl cleaner tablets for .99 each for $10.77 total.  I then returned home, and I drank some iced tea.  I had a message from a relative on the answering machine.  I will now put my most recent batch of photographs from my last two trips to Kennebunkport, Maine in the new photograph album.  I will put the new photo album on the far right of the photograph album shelf on the center hallway bookcase.  I will then do some regular computer work.  I suppose if one were once again being encouraged to evacuate the coastal area in Florida, and if one were on limited income, and if gasoline were still available in Florida, one could try to drive up to Atlanta again or take the bus http://www.greyhound.com/  or train http://www.amtrack.com/ , and if a Days Inn http://www.daysinn.com/  or other inexpensive motel were not available in the rush to get out of Florida, one could see if there was room at www.extendedstay.com or http://www.motel6.com/ , and of course there are many other hotel and motel chains and independent operators such as http://www.holidayinn.com/ .  Of course for larger budgets in Ashville, North Carolina www.biltmore.com has guest facilities.  I once gave a relative for Christmas in Florida, a book called "Bed and Breakfast Inns in America", which if one could afford it might be a more interesting way to travel to see some of the local color.  Of course, with so many people having to continually evacuate Florida this hurricane season, I suppose lots of people are taking "pot luck" and sleeping in shelters or other places of shelter.  Of course if one does mind cooler weather, there is lots of room in the New York area including Greenwich, Connecticut http://www.geocities.com/mikelscott/greenw.htm or in Chicago, Illinois or even Canada for that matter.  For the group of retired people called the "Leafers" whom come north for the fall foliage tours, the trees are still green here.  Also retired people could help defer the cost of a trip to Canada by buying cheaper pharmaceutical prescriptions, which I am sure they already know about. Note: <888> 09/24/04  Friday 7:55 P.M.:  I made and ate my usual salad www.geocities.com/mikelscott/salad.htm .  I used a tin of sardines that I chopped instead of tuna fish.  For the cheddar cheese portion, I used Kraft Cracker Barrel 2% low fat sharp cheddar cheese.  I also used a half of a cucumber that I peeled and sliced.  I made it with all of the other usual ingredients.  I ate it with a glass of iced tea.  I chatted with a relative.  I will now shut down the computer, and I will go out soon.  CIO 

Note: <888> 09/24/04  Friday 6:05 P.M.:  I finished house cleaning and watering the plants.  The apartment does not look as neat with all of the car items stored in the apartment.  The Sears Kenmore upright vacuum cleaner also pulled up a couple feet of a few strands of the carpet in the kitchen, so there is a vacant line space in the napping.  I chatted with a relative.  I told the relative that while at the relative's house in Kennebunkport, Maine http://www.geocities.com/mikelscott/137.htm after hurricane winds pasted over the house on this past Saturday afternoon, I saw a large blue or grey heron in the tidal pond in front of the house.  As I have said many times before the birds have more sense about the weather than humans, since they spend so much time outside.  I don't know about herons, but they frequently come north with hurricane winds.  Also after a hurricane in Scotland once, they saw Pelican on the St. Andrew's golf course.  In the old days in Key West, they said if the Pelicans disappeared, a hurricane would be coming, and in Biscayne Bay in Miami, they said if the Flamingos disappeared a hurricane would be coming.  Also since the eye or center of hurricane Jeanne is suppose to track up the coast of Florida from Fort Pierce or Vero Beach north along the northern Florida east coast, and the Georgia and Carolina's coasts, even though the west or southern side of the hurricane will be over land with less intense winds, more than likely with the more violent winds on the east side of the hurricane over the Atlantic Ocean off shore, there could a larger than normal storm surge causing increased flooding.  I will now throw out the garbage.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/23/04  Thursday 8:05 P.M.:  One of the Greenwich Library's long time users has passed away Greenwich Time: Dr. Edward Keefe .  When Dr. Keefe was heading up the senior's physical fitness class at the Greenwich Hospital and a regular user of the Greenwich Library about 12 years ago, I gave him a copy of Bill Gate's biography and recommended that he should invest in Microsoft.  Dr. Keefe looked a lot like Nelson Rockefeller and was equally smart.  We had not seem around much in the last year.  I once told him he looked he looked like the Archduke Ferdinand sitting around waiting for something to happen.  Dr. Keefe used word processors before personal computers, and he always told me he used a word processor called a "Viadeck".  He also once told me he was descended from the Emperor Charlemagne Charlemagne's Biography , and one could frequently see him around St. Mary's Church on Greenwich Avenue.  He also drove an old blue Cadillac and looked like one of those retirement community chiefs of police that one sees down in Florida.  We will all miss him dearly.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/23/04  Thursday 8:50 A.M.:  I ran BootVis.  I enabled the XP SP2 firewall, but the Symantec Security Check shows that the Ping Port is still opened.  However, with Optimum Online, every time one reboots, one gets a different IP address, so it is less of a problem than it might appear.  I found this site http://www.grn.com/ while looking for Gibson Research http://www.grc.com/ to check my ports.  The ping port still shows up on the Gibson Research tests.  I disabled remote assistance in my XP SP2 firewall.  Still the system seems fairly secure.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/23/04  Thursday 7:40 A.M.:  I downloaded and installed http://analyzer.symantec.com/default.asp , and I opened an account.  I then went to Symantec Security Check , and I tested my computer.  I closed the ping port in Norton Internet Security 2004 , but it still shows up on the test.  Everything else is fine.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/23/04  Thursday 6:40 A.M.:  I checked out the Symantec web site www.symantec.com and Norton System Works 2005 is available for download off the internet as a upgrade for $40 http://nct.symantecstore.com/0001/upgrade_center.html , but it does not say that it includes Norton Utilities.  Anyway, I was able to get Norton Win Doctor 2003 to work by doing a scan with out the first two tests, and then I did the second test, and then I did the first test without the Analysis agents, and there are no problems.  I also installed the latest version of Live Update, and ran the updates.  I then did a safe boot, and I ran Norton Antivirus 2004, and there were no problems.  I went outside while running it, and I watched some television.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/23/04  Thursday 4:10 A.M.:  I changed under the hardware settings for System from the VIA drivers to Microsoft XP drivers for the VIA drivers.  The system seems a bit more stable with the Microsoft drivers, and it starts faster and is a bit more responsive.  I also changed the IDE drivers to Primary and Secondary.  In Microsoft Money I changed the option to backup the Money File to "select option", so I do not have to back it up on exit which freezes the computer in compressed mode.  However, a manual backup in compressed mode works, so I can have a smaller file to store for backup on my pin drive.  I tried running full Norton Win Doctor 2003 test, but the system still froze.  I will look at the Symantec web site for a solution. Note: <888> 09/23/04  Thursday 3:15 A.M.:  I was informed by the night clerk at the Food Emporium that they found the 12 foot alligator that got away from the zoo in Alabama during Hurricane Ivan.  However, anyone whom has been down south would know that there are over 2.5 million wild alligators in Florida and over 40 thousand crocodiles and caimans not to mention all the ones in the neighboring states like Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and South Carolina along with the countries and islands further south, so just because they found the one that escaped from the zoo does not mean there are not more left in the wild.  More than likely there are similar big creatures in Sri Lanka since they also exist in India.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/23/04  Thursday 1:20 A.M.:  I went out after the last message.  I went by the Exxon gasoline station next to the Greenwich Library, and I bought $10.61 of regular unleaded gasoline at $2.159 a gallon for about 35 miles per gallon usage on the highway and locally since I returned back to Greenwich.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue including the train station area, and I sat out at various locations.  They have finished repaving the sidewalk in front of the veterans monument, and they have fall flowers planted.  They are now in the process of repaving sidewalks further up Greenwich Avenue.  I noticed in the dumpster outside Starbucks they have their old coffee stained furniture that they are throwing away.  I drove down by the waterfront.  I then went by the Food Emporium.  I bought two 20 bag boxes of Bigelow Japanese style green tea for $2.50 a box, and a five variety pack of five each of the Twinings teas or 25 bags total for $3.39 a two bulb package of General Electric Reveal 40 watt torpedo regular size base bulbs for $3.49 for $12.09 total.  I then returned home.  I put the ice tea in the refrigerator to chill.  I installed one of the 40 watt Reveal torpedo bulbs in my brass light fixture that hangs off the wall above the Epson printer.  I turned its rheostat up about 60%, so the fixture does not get too hot.  The 25 watt tube bulb in the fixture was blinking like it was ready to burn out.  I use the torpedo bulbs since they are cheaper than the tube bulbs.  I will now do some regular computer work.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/22/04  Wednesday 6:35 P.M.:  I chatted with one friend.  I left messages  with seven other friends and two relatives.  I think the problem with the computer occasionally freezing is caused by both hard drives being on the primary VIA IDE controller on the primary cable.  The Via web site says that if this occurs, one should put each hard drive on a separate cable, however, on my machine the length between the second device and the primary device connectors on the cables are not long enough to stretch from each hard drive to the DVD or CD/RW drives, however I have not tested it for sure.  I suppose with only about six inches between the primary connector and the secondary connector on my round IDE cables with my current case configuration, one could try to find a IDE cable with a greater distance or a connector IDE cable extender.  CIO 

Note: <888> 09/22/04  Wednesday 6:05 P.M.:  I showered and cleaned up.  I found my Connecticut emissions inspection form for the Hyundai in the items that I removed from the car.  I will now go out to put it in the glove box of the Hyundai.  I will be back up shortly in case anyone calls.  I will probably be staying here until about 8 P.M. this evening.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/21/04  Tuesday 11:00 P.M.:  I went out after the last message, and I went by the Arnold bread store factory outlet.  I bought a loaf of oat wheat grain bread for $2.19 and two 5.5 ounce boxes of Arnold regular cut croutons one seasoned and one garlic and herbs for .99 each for $4.17 total.  I then went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift Shop.  I bought a AT&T 25 foot telephone extension cord for $2.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I then drove up to Darien to the Exit 13 car wash, and I used the power spray wash wand for $5 in tokens to spray off and wash my car.  I used the high pressure spray wash to try to wash off some of the wax residue from when I waxed the car a year ago.  I then returned to downtown Greenwich.  I parked by the veterans monument, so pedestrians could see the for sale sign.  I paid a dollar for parking for two hours.  I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I toured CVS, and I used the bathroom at the Senior and Arts center.  Starbucks in downtown Greenwich is under remodeling until October 4, 2004.  I next went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Time.  I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought four half gallons of Tropicana Premium orange juice with calcium for $2.50 each, a four pack of Chicken of the Sea solid white albacore tuna fish for $3.99 all, a bag of five pounds of yellow onions for $3.49, 10 ounces of fresh spinach for $1.99, and a 10 ounce box of fresh mushrooms for $2.29 for $21.76 total.  I then returned home.  I put away my purchases, and I drank some iced tea.  I started up the computer, and it started having problems.  I worked on trying to fix the problems by changing different settings.  I finally changed the IDE drivers to the Microsoft VIA IDE drivers and the Standard IDE and ESDI controller drivers.  I also installed the latest NVIDIA video driver.  I also ran Bootvis.  I changed the Microsoft Money program not to compress the backup file, which was causing the computer to freeze.  Right now the system seems to be running just fine.  However, last night before I went to bed, I tried running Norton AntiVirus 2004, and the system froze, and once again it froze this evening.  It seems when doing intensive IDE controller work, the system might still freeze, but for now it is working.  I chatted with one relative, and I left a message with another relative and a friend.  I made and ate my usual salad www.geocities.com/mikelscott/salad.htm .  I did not use the homemade hummus www.geocities.com/mikelscott/hummus.htm , since I have not made up a fresh batch.  For the cheddar cheese portion, I used Kraft Cracker barrel 2% low fat sharp cheddar cheese.  I used all of the other regular ingredients.  I had the salad with a glass of iced tea.  I will now do some regular computer work.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/21/04  Tuesday 1:40 A.M.:  I made up a new sign to put in the driver's side rear windows of my Hyundai reflecting the current price and the current mileage.  I do not put another sign on the other side since it obstructs driving visibility.  I went outside, and I put it in the window of the Hyundai.  I started having system problems with the computer, so I did a System Restore to 09/11/04.  I changed my IDE 1 settings to PIO, so I could install the latest version of Ad-aware SE.  I then ran the program.  I ran Ccleaner.  I ran Norton Updates.  I ran Norton Win Doctor, and all the tests work except, the system crashes on the first test that scans the Active X files even when I disable all the tests and have the IDE 1 set to PIO.  I will go to bed shortly.  I will do a full system scan with Norton Antivirus 2004 while I am asleep.  I ate a bowl of peanuts with iced tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/20/04  Monday 10:05 P.M.:  Last Tuesday, I ate breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I left for Kennebunkport, Maine last Tuesday morning at 9:30 A.M..  Along with my clothes and other personal items, I brought up a box 40 new various size Rubbermaid containers that I bought at Lechters for $10 going out of business sale on Greenwich Avenue around Christmas time about four years ago.  I stopped by Putnam Trust Bank of New York on Mason Street.  I then went by the Exxon station next to the Greenwich Library, and I bought $2.25 of regular unleaded gasoline at $2.259 a gallon for about 25 miles per gallon.  I then drove up Glenville Road by the Farm stand where they sell lots of fresh produce.  I then drove up King Street, and I turned into the Westchester Airport access road, and I followed New King Street around to I-684.  I followed I-684 East to I-84 East, and I took a break at the Connecticut welcome center.  I then followed I-84 East, and I took a break at the rest area at Southington, Connecticut.  I chatted with a General Electric employee. I then followed I-84 East, and I took another break at the Vernon, Connecticut rest area.  I then got on the Massachusetts turnpike, and I took a break at the Charlton rest area.  I bought a McDonald's filet of fish sandwich for $2.80, a medium French fries for about $1.50 plus tax, the total was about $4.80.  They did not give me a receipt.  I had my meal with a glass of ice water.  It was hard to figure out how to get ice water out of the soda machine, since it was the same lever as the orange drink, but one has to push the water button not the lever.  At the Exxon pumps, I bought $7 of regular unleaded gasoline at $1.909 a gallon for about 45 miles per gallon usage.  I then exited at the first exit for I-290 north for Worcester, Massachusetts paying a .50 toll.  I then followed I-290 north to I-495 east, and I took a break at the Lowell, Massachusetts rest area.  I then followed I-495 east to I-95 north, and I took a break at the New Hampshire turnpike rest area.  I paid a $2 toll at the New Hampshire turnpike.  I followed it to the Maine turnpike, and I paid a $1.50 toll at the Maine turnpike.  I exit at the Wells, Maine exit which is the first exit after the toll.  I took a break at the Wells, Maine Amtrak railroad station.  I followed Route 1 north to the turn off for Kennebunkport, which I think is Route 9 east, and I followed it into Kennebunkport, Maine to my relative's house.  The entire trip was 283 miles, and it took about six and a half hours.  I unloaded the car.  I chatted with my relative.  My relative took me out to dinner at the Wayfarer Restaurant on Route 9 in Cape Porpoise, Maine http://kennebunkbeachmaine.com/links.htm .  I had a cup of clam chowder, and baked seasoned sea scallops and roll and ice water.  My portion of the meal was about $14.  I then returned back to my relatives, and we watched television about hurricane Ivan www.geocities.com/mikelscott/weather.htm .  My relative's house in Florida had minor damage from hurricane Frances.  My relative's gardener in Florida is from Jamaica, and his father was killed by hurricane Ivan when it passed over Jamaica.  Friends of my relative had their homes damaged in Florida by hurricane Frances.  I went to bed about 11 P.M., and I slept until 10:30 A.M. Wednesday morning.  I do not smoke cigarettes in my relatives house but out by the front garbage cans or out on the deck which is a bit cool at night this time of year.  The following morning, I had breakfast of Cheerios, toast, vitamins, supplements, coffee, and orange juice.  I watered the plants on the deck, and I swept it off.  I went out with my relative, and we dropped some items off at the St. David's thrift shop.  We went by Rite Aid drug store in Kennebunk.  I dropped off some photographs.  We then drove north to Shaw's supermarket in Biddeford, Maine.  My relative did some shopping.  We then picked up the photos at Rite Aid.  Part of the photos were from my trip to Kennebunkport, Maine this past June during the last week of June, and the remainder were from this trip.  We then returned to my relative's house.  I had dinner of a medium fried sirloin steak with baked potato and salad and cranberry juice and Poland Spring sparking water.  We watched more television about the hurricane weather in Florida, and since my relative also subscribes to the New York Times, I would read the New York Times in the evening.  I went to bed about midnight.  On Thursday morning for breakfast, I had cheerios, toast, vitamins, supplements, orange juice, and coffee.  I went out for an hour at the beach in front of the Colony Hotel.    My relative gave me lunch of a spinach quiche which I had with cranberry juice and Poland Spring sparking water mixture.  We drove around the downtown area of Kennebunkport, Maine and we did some errands.  For dinner on Thursday night I had baked flavored filet of salmon, corn on the cob, and sautéed zucchini slices and salad and the same cranberry juice and Poland Spring sparking water mixture.  After dinner, I went out for a walk in downtown Kennebunkport, Maine, and I explored the shop windows.  I then returned to watch the hurricane news and read the New York Times.  I went to bed about midnight, and I was up about 10 A.M. on Friday.  On Friday for breakfast I ate scrambled eggs, toast, bacon, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I watered the plants on the deck on Thursday evening, and I watered the plants in the front of the house on Friday morning.  My relative, and I then drove up to South Portland, Maine on U.S. 1.  We stopped by Wal-Mart in Biddeford, Maine and then Shaw's grocery store.  My relative bought gasoline at the Getty station in Biddeford, Maine.  We toured the Christmas Store in South Portland, Maine.  We went by the U.P.S. store next to the Portland, Maine airport, and for a 2 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot shipping box, they wanted $16, so we did not get it.  We then went by T.J. Maxx.  We next went by Pringles bread sandwich shop, and I ate a steak sandwich with a glass of coffee which was about $8.  We then went by Marshall's.  On the way back we stopped by the U-Haul store in Saco, Maine, and we bought two 2 foot by 2 foot by 2 foot shipping boxes for $2.50 each.  We returned back to my relative's house, and my relative made the cracked crab recipe from the food section of the New York Times a couple days before.  I had the dinner with a cranberry juice and sparking Poland Spring water mixture drink.  We watched more of the hurricane news and read the New York Times, and of course we chatted.  On Saturday, it rained, so I got up about 11 P.M., and I had breakfast of bacon, cheerios with sliced peaches, toast, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I went by Chic's Lobster house, and I bought some clam chowder, and then I went by the Kennebunkport hardware store, and I bought some bath tub caulk. The Republican party in Kennebunkport, Maine was having a lobster bake for $10 a person on the Town Green to welcome President Bush home, but I did not want to wait out in the rain to see if he would be showing up.  I did hear sirens from the motorcade though later on about the time it quit raining.  I had lunch of Chic's Lobster House clam chowder.  I caulked the master bathroom shower stall and the front bedroom shower stall and a little bit on the downstairs shower stall.  I went for a walk downtown, and at the gift shop by the bridge, I bought a Republican elephant 2004 auto sticker for $2 and .06 tax for $2.06, and then I went by the Colony Hotel beach.   I then drove around downtown Kennebunkport with my relative.  I had dinner of a large tossed salad with cold flaked filet of salmon and the same drink mixture.  We watched the news and read the paper and chatted.  I went to bed about midnight, and I was up about 11 A.M. on Sunday.  I had breakfast of cheerios with sliced bananas, toast, bacon, orange juice, vitamins, and supplements, and coffee.  I went downtown, and I walked around.  I used the bathroom at the reception center, and I made a dollar donation.  I bought at the Big Apple Mobil station $7.60 of regular unleaded gasoline at $1.959 a gallon for about 45 miles per gallon usage.  I took some photographs, and I went out by the Colony Hotel beach.  My relative, and I went to Federal Jack's for dinner http://www.federaljacks.com/ .  I had the fried haddock and fried potatoes or fish and chips and a glass of iced tea, which was about $14.  I returned with my relative back to my relative's house, and we chatted and read the Sunday New York Times, and we watched the news.  I packed my belongings, and I went to bed about midnight.    I was up at 8 A.M. this morning.  I had breakfast of cheerios with sliced bananas, bacon, toast, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I also had lunch most every day while I was visiting up in Maine including Clam chowder, Spinach quiche, turkey and cheese sandwiches, and salads.  I packed the car.  I said good bye and thank you to my relative, and I left my relative's house at 9:20 A.M.  I followed Route 9 west out of Kennebunkport to Route 1 South.  I turned right to the access road from Well's Maine to the Maine Turnpike.  I took the Maine Turnpike South, and I paid the $1.50 toll.  I took a break at the Massachusetts welcome center on I-95 south, and then I took I-495 west, and I took a break at the Lowell rest area.  I then I took I -290 south to the Massachusetts Turnpike.  I stopped at the Charlton rest area, and I ate a turkey and cheese sandwich with some Poland Spring water that my relative gave me.  I put in $5.55 or regular unleaded gasoline at $1.909 a gallon for about 45 miles per gallon.  When I got off the Massachusetts Turnpike at the next exit, the traffic would not let me into the line, so I tried what they called the Fast Lane, but there was no toll collector, so I guess the Fast Lane is like Easy Pass, so I was unable to pay the .50 toll, and I still have the toll ticket.  I guess, they might photograph my license plate, so I will wait to see if I hear from them.  I then took I-84 west, and I took a break at the Connecticut welcome center.  I then drove west on I-84, and I got off at Southbury, Connecticut, and I took a right turn and right turn and right turn to the McDonalds adjacent to I-84.  I bought a strawberry parfait for a dollar and .06 tax for $1.06.  I then headed west on I-84 to I-684 south, and I took a break at Bedford Hills, New York rest area.  I then got off at the Armonk, New York Westchester Airport exit, and I took the access road to King Street south, and I drove down to the first left after Merritt parkway which is a side road to Glenville Road, and then I took Weaver Street south to the Post Post Road, and I returned to my apartment in Byram.  I returned back here at 4 P.M., so the trip took six hours and 40 minutes, and it was 283 miles.  I carried up my belonging.  I had CD folder slipped underneath my door by DHL from Microsoft which was the XP SP2 update on it.  The CD folder caused the door not to open because of the raised carpet, so I fixed it by pushing down the carpet.  I left a message with my relative in Maine about my safe return.  I unpacked my belongings.  I did two loads of laundry.  I sorted through my mail.  I ate a 13 ounce Stouffer's Lean Cuisine chicken tenders tender with a glass of iced tea.  I chatted with three different relatives, and I left a message with a friend.  I have decided to try to sell my Hyundai http://www.geocities.com/mikelscott/hynfs.htm for $1950.  I could have the Volvo delivered by my relative from Pennsylvania on this Thursday.  I will have to check with the Greenwich Time about what their advertising rates are and if they have a weekend special rate.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/13/04  Monday 9:25 P.M.:  I put away the laundry.  I chatted with the relative in Maine about bringing up the Queen Anne chair.  I brought it downstairs, and although I can fit it into the back hatchback area of the Hyundai with the rear seat down, the entire rear view vision is obscured.  I decided that would be unsafe to drive long distance, so I brought the Queen Anne chair back upstairs, and I put it back in its regular place in front of the stereo system between the far ends of the sofa and couch.  I told the relative I would not be bringing it up.  If one is curious how I was able to bring the Queen Anne chair downstairs and back, I hoisted it on my head without the cushion.  Needless to say, I am a bit exhausted.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/13/04  Monday 8:05 P.M.:  I woke up at 2 P.M. this morning, and I ate a bowl of dry roasted peanuts with iced tea.  I had a hard time falling asleep until 6 A.M., so I watched television on and off.  I woke up at 11 A.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I figured nobody from Saudi Arabia would be showing up this late in the summer to help out with our winter energy needs, so I took the 2 foot by 4 foot Saudi Arabian hospitality flag down from the center hallway bookcase, and I folded it up, and I put it in the right center mahogany bureau drawer in the living room.  I still have all of the other cold weather country flags displayed.  I then cleaned up, and I went out.  I went to the Greenwich Hospital dental outpatient clinic, and I had the follow up on my dental x-rays.  I have to schedule an appointment in two weeks for some dental work.  I next drove over to the Old Greenwich Mobil Express car wash, and I had my Hyundai washed for $5.  I then drove over by FedEx at exit 6 of the New England Thruway where the new Stamford Hyundai http://www.hyundaiofstamford.com/  is now located, and they told me, they would not be able to give me any near the www.kbb.com value of the car.  I then drove up to Sandovals www.sandovalsautocenter.com and they offered me twice as much as Stamford Hyundai, but it was less than half of the $2,250 I am asking.  They both use the same dealer book for appraising cars.  I then returned to central Greenwich.  I saw an ABC news truck by Bruce Park possibly reporting on the alligator in park pond story.  I left my car parked on Greenwich Avenue, so any strollers could see the for sale signs.  I walked to the Greenwich Avenue branch of Putnam Trust Bank of New for parking change and to use the ATM.  I made my 4 P.M. appointment.  I then walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue.  I stopped by  CVS, and I bought twelve 3.75 ounce tins of Beach Cliff sardines in water for two for .99 for $5.94 total.  I sat out at various locations.  I returned home.  I returned an inquiry call about the Hyundai, but the party was not interested.  I chatted with my relative in Kennebunkport, Maine http://www.geocities.com/mikelscott/137.htm , and I am going to drive up there to visit tomorrow leaving here between 9 A.M. and 10 A.M. and arriving there about six hours later.  I stop at most of the rest areas on the way going my usual route as this past June.  I will probably stay up there through the weekend and return next Monday when it should be sunny after any possible rainy weather from the remains of hurricane Ivan.  I started two loads of laundry, and I have 15 minutes to go on the dry cycle.  I put clean linens on the bed in the bedroom.  I am charging up the Sony Handycam battery.  I will take the usual items that I take up along with some warmer clothing in case it is cooler at night.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/12/04  Sunday 11:05 P.M.:  I watched the Fox News Report on Hurricane Ivan www.geocities.com/mikelscott/weather.htm .  I chatted with a relative.  Because of scheduling problems, I will not be going up to Kennebunkport, Maine on September 22, however, if I should be able to sell the Hyundai tomorrow, I could go down to Pennsylvania on the train to pick up the Volvo, and then drive it up to Kennebunkport, Maine this week, and come down the following Monday after the rainy weather.  I also could take the train to Kennebunkport, Maine via Wells, Maine and come back in time to receive the Volvo if I wanted it dropped off on September 22.  However, I first have to sell the Hyundai.  If I can not sell the Hyundai tomorrow at either of the two dealers, I probably should advertise it in the Greenwich Time and Stamford Advocate and hope I sell it by September 22.  However, I could go up to Kennebunkport this Tuesday and come back on next Monday after the rainy weather, and not take delivery on the Volvo until I sell the Hyundai after I had returned from Maine.  Thus it is a mixed kettle of fish.  I will wait to see what develops tomorrow.  I will now shut down the computer, and I will go to bed.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/12/04  Sunday 9:05 P.M.:  I  looked at the weather with my Weather Pulse weather program for Greenwich, Connecticut and Kennebunkport, Maine next week, and it is suppose to rain in this area and Kennebunkport, Maine this coming Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, I guess from Hurricane Ivan's remains.  I called my relative in Maine, and we agreed that I would not want to be driving down from Maine that weekend, so we decided to cancel my trip up to Kennebunkport, Maine this Tuesday.  I have a relative delivering the 1995 Volvo 850 Turbo station wagon which is registered on Wednesday September 22, so I will take possession of the Volvo then, and I will follow in the Volvo my relative in the in their other car up to Kennebunkport, Maine on that day for my visit.  Thus I will still try to sell the Hyundai tomorrow at Stamford Hyundai or up in Darien, but if they are not interested or do not offer a price that I feel is fair, I will then advertise it for the rest of the week in the Greenwich Time and the Stamford Advocate.  I will now go through my email.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/11/04  Saturday 11:45 P.M.:  I made three copies of the Hyundai title for my records.  I printed out three copies of a Bill of Sale to be filled in that I put in the glove box of the Hyundai.  I collected the sales receipts for the Hyundai maintenance that I had done while I owned the car along with Sears receipts for the Michelin tires and the Sears International battery and the Oil Star oil change receipts, and I put them in a Priority Mail envelope on the back seat of the Hyundai.  I made up two For Sale signs with the sale information that I scotched taped into the two back seat side windows on either side of the car.  I went outside to do all of this.  I probably will not be going out, and I will go to bed after going through my email, so I will be back on a day schedule.  Remember to look at www.geocities.com/mikelscott/weather.htm .  I will now send out my weekly notes.    CIO

Note: <888> 09/11/04  Saturday 9:10 P.M.:  I was up at 9 P.M. last night, and I ate my usual salad www.geocities.com/mikelscott/salad.htm .  For the cheddar cheese portion, I used Stop and Shop 2% low fat sharp cheddar cheese.  I made the salad with all of the usual ingredients.  I had the salad with a glass of iced tea.  I went back to bed afterwards until 7 A.M. this morning.  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I went back to bed until 4 P.M. this afternoon.  I chatted with two relatives twice each about my Hyundai and the Volvo.  The 1995 Volvo 850 turbo station wagon is ready to be picked up by me in Pennsylvania or delivered to me, and it is registered where I could drive it right away.  However, first I have to sell my 1999 Hyundai Accent L hatchback with 41,700 miles.  I went outside, and I removed from the back window of the Hyundai the Greenwich Country Day School sticker, the "W04" sticker, the GEICO sticker from the side window, and the Greenwich, Connecticut beach sticker from the front window.  I also removed the contents of the car accept for the registration and the insurance card.  This included removing about 400 pounds of stored items including tools, beach chairs, and another items in the rear hatchback area of the car.  I loosened the license plate bolts, so they will come off easily with a Phillips screw driver that I have in the glove box.  I put the items that I removed from the Hyundai in my apartment underneath the maple side table and the mahogany end tables.  I chatted with Stamford Hyundai, and they said they would look at the car on Monday afternoon.  However, I have a 1:30 P.M. appointment at the dentist on Monday afternoon and another 4 P.M. appointment.  I will also check tomorrow with Steve at Greenwich Exxon next to the Greenwich Library whom buys used cars.  Kelly Blue Book www.kbb.com says that a 1999 Hyundai Accent L with 41,700 miles with five speed manual transmission and no air conditioning in a private party sale in excellent condition is $2,870 and in good condition is $2,555 and the Blue Book dealer trade in value is $1,850 in excellent condition and $1,635 in good condition.  The car has two small dings and a four inch ding.  However, it has new Michelin 175 70R/13 all season radial tires with only 10,000 miles and it also has the new Sears International battery bought last December.  The tires were about $400 and the battery was about $100.  Also I have had the Hyundai maintained by Norwalk Hyundai which is now Stamford Hyundai with all the scheduled maintenance jobs which were about $500 in the last two years that I have owned the car.  Its next scheduled maintenance besides oil change is at 48,000 miles.  They current oil and filter change has less than a thousand miles on it.  The car runs fine, and there have not been any problems with it. The Hyundai is black, and the finish is in excellent condition except for a couple of minor scratches.  I guess I will try to sell it for $2,250 which is the difference between the dealer and the private party values.  However, I might have to sell it for less to the dealer.  It does have an AM/FM stereo cassette deck.   I will make up signs to put in the two side rear windows.  I will also make up a Bill of Sale to have ready to go.  Thus the car is ready to sell, and once I sell it I can take possession of the Volvo.  I chatted with another relative.  I ate a 13 ounce Stouffer's Lean Cuisine chicken fettuccini dinner with ice tea.  I will now make up a web page to advertise the car on the internet.  Depending on what I am able to do with the sale of the Hyundai, it might effect my travel plans this Tuesday to Maine, and I might have to delay them to next week, or sell the Hyundai after I return.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/10/04  Friday 2:50 P.M.:  I went to bed after the last message.  I was awake at 2 P.M. because I could not sleep.  I ate a bowl of Doritos guacamole chips with some iced tea.  I watched television on and off about the hurricane situation until 5 A.M..  I fell back asleep, and I woke up at 6:30 A.M..  I ate breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I cleaned up, and I left the apartment about 8:45 A.M..  I drove east on U.S. 1 to Bedford Street in Stamford, Connecticut, and I showed up for my appointment at the state of Connecticut office about 9:30 A.M..  However, the person I was suppose to see today was out sick this week, so the receptionist entered the fact that I had shown up and said it would not be necessary to return for my state of Connecticut redetermination.  I then returned back to my apartment via U.S. 1.  I then did my house cleaning and watering the plants.  I fixed the barometer by the sweater closet that is part of the wall weather station.  It had fallen off the wall a couple of months ago, when I brushed by it.  I opened it up, and I centered the adjusting screw with the back of the case, and then I adjusted it to 30.8 which is what the Jensen barometer said on the back of my apartment door.  It should work properly now.  I threw out the garbage, and I picked up the mail.  The package of seven cartons of Seneca Ultra Lights 100s cigarettes arrived from http://www.smokemcheapcigarettes.com/ via Priority Mail.  I will now shut down the computer, I will eat a peanut butter sandwich with some iced tea.  I will then go to sleep for a while, since I did not get enough sleep last night.  Remember to keep an eye out on www.geocities.com/mikelscott/weather.htm .  CIO

Note: <888> 09/09/04  Thursday 9:25 P.M.:  I was up at 10 A.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I went back to bed until 1:30 P.M..  I chatted with somebody.  I cleaned up, and I went out to my 3 P.M. appointment.  I then went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift Shop, and I bought a six foot Belkin parallel port cable for .50 and a square tile with the Bedford, New York court house in 1787 for .25 for .75 total.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I toured the front of the Greenwich Hardware store and CVS.  I drove down by the waterfront.  I read the Greenwich Time newspaper at the Greenwich Library.  I went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a Boston Market 16 ounce chicken primavera dinner for $2.99, fresh broccoli crowns at .99 a pound for $1.64, and a 15 ounce bag of Doritos guacamole chips for $2.50 for $7.13 total.  I then returned home.  I drank some iced tea.  I put the Bedford, New York court house tile to the left side of my dining place at the dining table above the Williamsburg, Virginia tile.  On the LPT port box, I disconnected the HP 4L laser printer cable from the B port, and I connected the Belkin cable that I bought.  I tried to get the Minolta QMS PagePro 1250W laser printer to work off the Siemens router port, but it would not work.  Possibly it is that either the Belkin cable or the cable to the port box is not a 15 wire parallel cable and might be a 14 wire cable.  Still the Minolta printer works off the USB port, but I have not been able to network it to the backup computers.  I left it connected to the parallel cable though.  I microwaved and ate the 16 ounce Boston Market chicken primavera dinner, and I had it with a glass of iced tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/08/04  Wednesday 9:15 A.M.:  I ate 2/3rds of a 10 ounce can of smoked almonds this morning, when I woke up during the middle of the night.  I had a hard time falling asleep.  I rested on and off.  A friend called me at 6:30 A.M. this morning.  I finally woke up about 4 P.M..  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I picked up my mail downstairs.  I cleaned up, and I went out.  I picked up two prescriptions at the CVS pharmacy on Greenwich Avenue.  I then walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I stopped by CVS again, and I bought for half price two 6.4 ounce tubes of Crest tartar control toothpaste with fluoride for $2.25 both and a white Djeep cigarette lighter for $1.89 plus .25 tax for $4.39 total.  I then completed my walk.  I used the bathroom at the senior and arts center.  I drove down by the waterfront.  I then went by the Greenwich Library.  I just now returned home, and I drank some iced tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/07/04  Tuesday 11:20 P.M.:  When I go up to Maine, I will take out all of the beach chairs, mechanics tools, and other items from the rear hatchback area of the Hyundai and other lose items lying around the car in case I sell it up there.  If I should sell it up in Maine, I can take the train back, and in a few days the Volvo would be delivered here.  I also have a dental appointment for Friday September 13, but since there is no Friday September 13, I have to check out the actual date and time.  I also have an appointment this Friday at the Connecticut state office in Stamford, Connecticut, so I guess for the near future, I will be on a day schedule.  I ate a dozen Town House crackers with half inch by 1.25 inch by 1/8th inch thick slices of Stop and Shop New York sharp cheddar cheese with some iced tea.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/07/04  Tuesday 10:50 P.M.:  I went outside briefly.  I am just doing regular computer work.  I guess sooner or later, I will be getting the Volvo.  It will be the fourth Volvo I have owned.  I believe the car is some sort of shade of blue.  It has been maintained well, so it should not be any problems in my normal driving routine, but I will have to get new tires for it.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/07/04  Tuesday 9:00 P.M.:  Between the waterfront on Steamboat Road and the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop today, I stopped by Peabody's garage, and I inquired if they would want to buy my 1999 Hyundai Accent with 41,600 miles in very good condition.  They explained to me it would be hard to resell, since nobody wants stick shift cars without air conditioning.  I inquired because a relative has offered me their 1995 850 turbo Volvo station wagon with 95,000 miles. My Hyundai only has ten thousand miles on a new set of Michelin tires, and it is has a new battery, and it has been dealer maintained.  There are no problems with it.  The Volvo although it is a more deluxe car would need new expensive tires in 5,000 miles and since it has more miles would more than likely would have more maintenance costs.  However, it is a much safer car.  Thus if I were to get the Volvo, I would need to sell the Hyundai to pay for part of the Volvo.  Kelly Blue Book www.kbb.com shows what each of the cars are worth approximately.  Although the Volvo would be partially a gift, I would have to pay state sales tax on it, and I would have to have it inspected since it is an out of state car.  The relative would help me out on the expenses, but I am not sure I want to deal with a deluxe car with 95,000 miles, when I have low mileage on the Hyundai.  Still safety is a consideration.  I would first have to sell the Hyundai, hopefully for $2,750, and then I would have to get a temporary Connecticut license plate to transfer the Volvo from the Pennsylvania area here, and once I had it inspected, I could register it.  However, if I sold the Hyundai first, I would have problems getting around until I acquired the Volvo, and I would need transportation to pick up the temporary license plate at Connecticut Motor Vehicles on the Norwalk Wilton border.  Since I only drive about 5,000 miles a year, the Volvo would probably last me about 10 years or more, and it would be safer to drive to Maine for my summer trips to Maine.  Still, I have to be able to sell the Hyundai first, get transportation to motor vehicles to get the temporary plate, although possibly the relative would be able to deliver the Volvo from Pennsylvania in the near future, and I might be able to use the current registration to have it inspected and registered.  Thus I have some new matters to possibly deal with, and I first I would need sell the Hyundai.  CIO  

Note: <888> 09/07/04  Tuesday 8:05 P.M.:  I was up at noon.  I chatted with a relative a few times.  I had breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I cleaned up, and I went out.  I went by the Arnold Bread outlet, and I bought two 5.5 ounce boxes of Arnold cheese and garlic regular cut croutons for .99 each, a 5.5 ounce box of Arnold cheddar and garlic croutons regular cut for .99, and a loaf of Arnold oat bran bread for $1.45 for $4.42 total.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I next went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop, and I bought a wireless door bell set for $1.  I then drove over to Old Greenwich to the Mobil Express car wash, and I got my car washed for $5.  I towel dried the remaining moisture after having the car washed, and I shook out the driver's side mat.  I then went by the Second Congregational Church Rummage Room thrift shop in Old Greenwich.  They told me they will accept used computers for donations.  I then went out to Tod's Point, and I parked at the southeast parking area, and I walked around the 2.5 mile walk around Tod's Point.  It was a nice day, and not many people were out there.  I kept a keen eye out in case that seven foot alligator from Bruce Park was in the marshes.  I sat out at various locations on my walk.  I then returned back to central Greenwich.  I sat out downtown for a while.  I used the bathroom at the Senior and Arts center.  I drank a few cups of Deer Park spring water from the cooler at the Senior and Arts center.  I then went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Time.  I then went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a 10 ounce bag of fresh spinach for $1.99, a 24 ounce bag of Roma plum tomatoes for $2.49, and a 16 ounce bag of baby carrots for $1.50 for $5.49 total.  I then returned home.  I plugged in the buzzer unit for the wireless door bell into the wall socket behind the long green sofa.  I put a fresh 9 volt alkaline battery in the wireless button unit, and I mounted it to the right side of my apartment entrance door, above the wired door bell button that activates the base unit in the bedroom that plays Blue Bells of Scotland when it is pressed.  Thus I now have a door bell unit in the bedroom and one in the living room.  When the bedroom unit plays, one can hear it through out the apartment, but the sound of the wireless unit in the living room can only be heard in the living room and kitchen and hallway.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/07/04  Tuesday 4:15 A.M.:  Looking at all of the damage to mobile homes or manufactured homes during the last two hurricanes in Florida, it reminded me of a fellow that I once met in Key West, Florida whom looked like Ronald Reagan.  He had an Airstream trailer http://www.airstream.com/ parked next to the Boca Chica Naval base since World War II, and it seemed to have survived over time.  Thus although they are smaller than double wide trailers and other more modern trailers, they might be more sturdy against hurricane winds, if one did not mind the discomfort of a smaller living environment.  CIO

I always said at my age of 54 or 42 when I first became involved with personal computers that I did not pursue a career in the personal computer technology field because I did not want to end up sleeping in my car with a laptop computer on the beach in California or where ever computer people end up when the road runs out for their careers.  However, since we live on the ocean or close to the ocean here on Long Island Sound, I will keep a keen eye out for computer people whom end up sleeping in their cars around our waterfront when their computer careers begin to run out in this area.  However about 20 years ago, we had the program Max Headroom about a nirvana computer world gone array, so I suppose whatever the case here, I have used what little spare funds I have to invest in this technology, so I will stick with it.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/05/04  Sunday 4:20 P.M.:  I woke up after the last message, and I ate half of a 10 ounce can of smoked almonds.  I had a telephone call from a friend at 7 A.M..  I chatted with two relatives at 10 A.M..  I finally woke up at 2:30 P.M..  I ate breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I made my coffee with 50% hazelnut and 50% decaffeinated coffee.  I drank my coffee outside in my Starbucks travel coffee mug.  I carried up the three beach chairs from the back seat of my Hyundai, and I put them in the false ceiling above the bed in the bedroom.  I chatted with a relative.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/05/04  Sunday 1:15 A.M.:  I went out after the last message.  Someone had discarded a pair of 12 foot jumper cables by the dumpster, so I put them in the right rear of my Hyundai hatch back area.  I then went by the Exxon gasoline station next to the Greenwich Library, and I bought $5.30 of regular unleaded gasoline at $2.199 a gallon for about 24 miles per gallon usage.  I then went downtown, and I walked the entire length of Greenwich Avenue including the train station area, and I sat out at various locations.  I next drove down by the waterfront.  They have repaved with asphalt Steamboat Road and Oneida drive.  I next went by the Food Emporium, and I bought a 39 ounce bag of Eight O'clock decaffeinated 100% Arabica coffee beans for $11.99, a box of five each of five different types for 25 total of Twinings tea for $3.39, and two Stouffer's Lean Cuisine 13 5/8 ounce chicken fettuccini, a 14 ounce Lean Cuisine chicken pena, and a 13 ounce Lean Cuisine glazed chicken each for $2.39 each for $24.94 each.  I returned home.  I opened up the bag of decaffeinated coffee beans.  I labeled my backup Braun coffee grinder "Decaf", and I filled it with decaffeinated bean.  I took the three plug adaptor off the power strip underneath the maple table, and I plugged it into the left most wall socket in the kitchen, and I plugged the decaf Braun coffee grinder into it.  I placed it on the left front of the kitchen counter.  I filled two jars that I labeled "Decaf", and I put one on the counter behind the decaf Braun coffee grinder with the regular hazelnut coffee beans.  I have the regular Braun hazelnut coffee grinder on the left shelf in the kitchen.  Thus I can have either hazelnut when I wake up, and decaf anytime for the rest of the day.  William Morris in his book "Dutch" about Ronald Reagan, said that Ronald Reagan said that his doctor said when he became president, he would live 20 years longer if he drank decaffeinated coffee.  I then made a cup of decaffeinated coffee, and I drank it while watching the hurricane news on television. Note: <888> 09/03/04  Friday 11:50 A.M.:  I woke up last night, and I ate a half of a 10 ounce can of smoked almonds with some iced tea.  I had a friend call at 7 A.M. this morning.  I was up at 10 A.M..  I chatted with a relative twice and another relative.  I looked at TCPalm: Frances slows, reduces intensity slightly , http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/ftp/graphics/AT06/refresh/AL0604W+GIF/031453W.gif , http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml , www.geocities.com/mikelscott/weather.htm , NRL Monterey Satellite Photos , and I looked at the cable news channels, and I am now watching the weather channel.  Currently hurricane Frances has 115 mile winds, and it is a category 3 hurricane.  However, the current tracking is for the eye to come ashore between Vero Beach, Florida and Stuart, Florida, however as it goes over the water between the Bahamas and Florida, it might pick up with intensity again or change course.  The storm is moving slower, so it will last longer when it passes over.  The CNN correspondent is in Melbourne, Florida.  A lot of Greenwich, Connecticut people have homes in Vero Beach, Florida, so we keep an eye on Vero Beach, Florida.  They say the hurricane winds will extend 85 miles from the eye, and there could be up to 20 inches of rain and a 14 foot storm surge.  I will now eat breakfast of oatmeal, toast with strawberry jam, orange juice, vitamins, supplements, and coffee.  I will then do my house cleaning and watering the plants.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/02/04  Thursday 6:50 P.M.:  I went out after the last message, an I mailed my payments for my Cablevision and Optimum Online at the Valley Road post office.  I then went by the Wachovia Bank on Benedict Place, and I paid my rent to the Greenwich Housing Authority.  I then made my 3 P.M. appointment.  I then went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop, and I bought a matching pair of two two level mahogany end tables with leather tops in the Bombay style of furniture.  They are about 50 years old, but I think they are reproductions not the original Bombay furniture.  They were $10 apiece for $20, and I bought a pair of 50 foot speaker cords for a dollar and a package of two General Electric extra long life night light bulbs for .50 for $21.50 total.  One of the tables has a cigarette burn in the leather top.  I was able to get them both in my car.  I then returned home.  I brought them up, and I polished them with furniture polish spray in the hallway.  I then moved the blue sofa four inches closer to the long mahogany bureau and about ten inches closer to the long green couch.  I moved the brass and glass coffee table centered between the two sofas, so there is about ten inches between the edges of the coffee table and the sofas.  I moved the maple side table behind the blue sofa, and I centered it on the back of the blue sofa.  I moved the two cordless telephones and answering machine to the near side of the blue sofa.  I rearranged the flags, and I have the two lights centered on the back of the table.  I put the two mahogany end tables back to back at the near end of the blue couch at the apartment entrance.  I moved the brass and glass end table from the front of the Danish bar to the near front of the blue sofa.  I moved various bric a brac items from around the apartment on to the end tables.  Thus I have a more formal apartment entrance.  I put the speaker cords on the floor of the sweater closet, and I replaced the red bulb in my bathroom night light with a clear bulb.  I went outside briefly.  CIO

Note: <888> 09/01/04  Wednesday 9:10 P.M.:  I went out after the last message.  I went by the Greenwich Hardware store, and from the 70% off rack in the front of the store, I bought a set of two Laclede Cable Type Radial Tire Chains that are adjustable to fit my Michelin front P175/70R-13 all season radial tires for $15 plus .90 tax for $15.90 total.  I don't think you need a set of chains for the rear tires on a front wheel drive car.  I then went by the Greenwich Hospital Thrift shop.  I next went downtown, and I walked lower Greenwich Avenue, and I sat out at various locations.  I chatted with another village regular.  I then drove down by the waterfront.  I then went by the Greenwich Library, and I read the Greenwich Time.  I next went by the Stop and Shop, and I bought a 16 ounce container of Stop and Shop grated parmesan cheese for $5.99, two 8.5 ounce boxes of Nabisco Triscuit low fat crackers for $1.99 each box, a 24 ounce bag of Roma plum tomatoes for $2.49, a 10 ounce bag of fresh spinach for $1.99, a 16 ounce bag of baby carrots for $1.99 for $16.44 total.  I then returned home, and I drank some iced tea.  I will put the chains in the their container in the rear hatch back area of my car, but before the colder weather I should prefit them to my automobile tire size.  CIO
