Merry Christmas and Happy New Years,
This past year has been quite a different
year with me spending most of my time home since the spring. I do get out to go to the grocery store and
the pharmacy. I have continued to work
on the internet and with my home computer setup. I have not traveled out of Greenwich in over
two and a half years. I only spend a
brief time downtown on Greenwich Avenue once or twice a week. I stay in touch with the world-wide news at
home, and I still chat regularly with friends and family. With so much time staying at home, I have
been spending a lot more time sleeping and resting. I seem to be maintaining my health by avoiding
contact with most people. I feel like I
was when I was a youth in Greenwich spending most of my time at home. My relatives elsewhere are doing just
fine. I have my apartment all setup for
winter, and I am warm and comfortable. I
am able to watch foreign broadcasts to see other world viewpoints. Although I maintain my web sites, they are a
bit outdated, and I do not think they get much traffic. I chat with a few neighbors when I go outside
in my neighborhood. It seems to be
mostly younger people downtown now, and my generation seems to have mostly
disappeared. I am still mostly on a
night time schedule working on the computers and doing other chores. We had our first snow fall last night of
eight inches, so I am pretty much back into my winter motif. In my free time I watch internet media entertainment. I feel fortunate to have a comfortable home
that I have lived at this location for about 32 years. My 2005 Volvo XC 70 is running just fine,
since I hardly go any where anymore. It
has about 120,000 miles on it. I have
stocked up on plenty of food to have available when needed at home. In the summer I still see young people using
the city park in my back yard. I order a
lot of my food from Amazon off the internet.
All though I have global communications hardly anyone communicates with
me which is just as well, since I am usually asleep in the day time. We have a number of new residents whom have
moved out of New York City, so there are new faces around exploring our simple downtown
area. I bought K cup coffee and tea
machines, so I make my beverages at home now.
We still have a number of residents from else where in the world, but I
have limited language skills. I have one
relative working the area whom I have not seen yet. Our local airport does not seem to have much
traffic anymore. They are refurbishing the
Greenwich Library for future use. A
great many shops seem to have disappeared downtown. In the warmer weather there were a lot of
people dining on Greenwich Avenue and elsewhere outside. They are planning an expansion of my current
public housing neighborhood, so we might have new construction going on
soon. The local newspaper is about my
only source of information anymore.
Hopefully we will be back to normal some time in the near future.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Years,
Michael Louis Scott
